BMW have launched their flagship SUV the X7 for the
Indian market. The X7 comes positioned above the BMW X5, hence
taking over the mantle of flagship SUV from the German car giant. With the launch
of the X7 BMW finally has a competitor to the Mercedes-Benz GLS
SUV. The X7 is a large SUV, with a very good and powerful road presence.
The size of the X7 is such that you will not miss out on it and is going
to be a sure shot head-turner wherever you go. The design on the X7 is
everything you would expect from a BMW – an elegant yet sporty design, a large
signature BMW grille and sophisticated, muscular design. BMW’s signature
grille just keeps on getting bigger and bigger, stamping a distinctive identity.
The grille is flanked by slim LED headlights. The rear of the X7 has a
sleek and clean design, with intricately designed horizontal taillights.
The BMW X7 is
based on the Cluster Architecture (CLAR), BMW’s X5 is also based on the CLAR
platform. On the inside, the BMW X7 has a layout like the BMW X5.
The X7 offers customers the added functionality of the third row. The X7
comes in 6 or 7 seat configurations with all rows having the ability to recline.
The X7 has a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system which has
features such as Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, gesture control, a digital
instrument cluster, ambient lighting, a 3-piece glass sunroof and autonomous
parking (park assistant). Other features on the X7 include – air suspension,
dynamic traction control, hill start, and hill descent control, cornering brake
control, etc. The X7 comes in 2 variants – xDrive40i and xDrive30d
DPE Signature. The xDrive40i is powered by a 3.0 L straight-six
turbo-petrol engine which produces 340 bhp of max power. While the xDrive30d
DPE Signature is powered by a 3.0 L straight-six turbo-diesel engine
producing 265 bhp of max power. Both these variants are mated to an 8-speed
automatic gearbox and come equipped with BMW’s xDrive four-wheel-drive
system.
Prices for the BMW X7 start at Rs.98.90 Lakh.
The BMW X7 will compete with cars the likes of the Mercedes-Benz GLS
and the Land Rover Range Rover.
